Alissia Garabrant is an Assistant Professor and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator at the University of Indianapolis, School of Occupational Therapy (OT). In her role at UIndy she finds and places OT students in their clinical and community experiences all around the US. She also teaches a variety of courses including neuroscience, fundamental OT, documentation, adult interventions, and professional development. She has a wide range of clinical experience from OP pediatrics and adults, inpatient adults, and skilled nursing facilities.
Alissia returned to school to become an OT after watching an OT work with her grandfather and falling in love. Prior to becoming an OT, she worked as the Technical Director at the Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater. She brought her creativity and technological skills to OT and now has a passion for helping people gain the most functional independence with their daily task through assistive technology or other compensatory strategies.
Alissia also serves as the Treasurer for the Indiana Occupational Therapy Association. She is passionate about service and advocacy of the profession and clients. In her free time she loves to be outside, you can find her kayaking out on the lake, biking, or just getting lost in the woods.
