January 2013
Easter Seals Crossroads hosted a Military and Veterans Initiative forum on January 22 at Scottish Rite Cathedral. The forum began with Colonel David Sutherland's address to the Rotary Club of Indianapolis; Colonel Sutherland is retired from the US Army and is currently the Executive Director of the Donnie Dixon Center. Easter Seals National has collaborated with Colonel Sutherland and the Dixon Center to address the needs of returning veterans and their families. The purpose of the forum was to initiate collaboration among social service agencies and community leaders.
Kimberly Mitchell, Deputy Director of the Dixon Center, was a guest on Indy Style that morning and spoke of the need for services for veterans and their families.

Comcast has given National Easter Seals the opportunity to feature Make the First Five Count in its advertising for October, November and December 2012. View the PSA.
Bruce Schnaith and Marjorie Mansfield from Crossroads' Employment Division appeared on Indy Style on September 12 to discuss services and the fact that October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month - a Department of Labor initiative that promotes the benefits of an inclusive and diverse workforce. Participants in the Adult Day Fall Festival held at Easter Seals Crossroads on September 17 enjoyed a special appearance from Pacers' George Hill.

Veterans’ Services
Col. Sutherland spoke at the American Legion Leadership Conference on August 3. www.legion.org/membership/211589/capacity-greatness. He will return on January 22, 2013, to speak to the Rotary Club of Indianapolis in support of a National and local Veterans’ outreach initiative.

As a part of My Indy’s search for their 2013 Face of Indy spokesperson, the five finalists conducted a number of events to raise charitable contributions for Easter Seals Crossroads. Last week, the hopeful Face of Indy candidates had a day of paintball fun at Paintball Indiana and a celebrity bartending Friday night at Cadillac Ranch. Easter Seals Crossroads has been mentioned on Indy Style several times during this month of promotional events.

Scott Fogo appeared on National Public Radio - WFYI's American Graduate segment - on June 25 to highlight the Make the First Five Count initiative.
Timed with Father's Day, Easter Seals Crossroads in conjunction with Easter Seals National promoted wearing the Make the First Five Count bow tie on June 15. Our bow tie made appearances on local celebrities all over the city, including Chuck Lofton from WTHR who wore his on Sunrise on June 15!
Dr. Gwen Martin (Autism Services Manager - Easter Seals Crossroads) was quoted in a June 15 Indianapolis Star article about the Fathers and Families Center Face of Fatherhood event. Tim Parks - an award recipient and one of our Easter Seals Crossroads family member - was featured in the story.
Curtiss Quirin (COO - Crossroads Industrial Services, a division of Easter Seals Crossroads) was featured on Indy Style on Flag Day - June 14. He highlighted our Department of Defense partnership and spoke of employment opportunities at the facility.
Easter Seals Crossroads participated in PBS Kids in the Park on Saturday, June 9. We highlighted our Make the First Five count national initiative. Our tent featured games and activities in a terrific shaded area where parents could rest and enjoy watching their kids play in our interactive play area.
TapN'Run was held on June 9 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Easter Seals Crossroads. The event was held in Broad Ripple and the 1,800 runners and 70+ volunteers thoroughly enjoyed the event, which provided a community awareness opportunity for Easter Seals Crossroads.

On May 2, the Presidents Roundtable meeting presentation was held at Easter Seals Crossroads. The Roundtable brings together the leaders from Central Indiana's civic and service organizations, including our own Crossroads Guild. The other entities included Christamore Guild, Day Nursery Auxiliary, the ISO Association, Junior League, Methodist Hospital Task Core, St. Margaret's Guild and the Mayor's Office. More than 60 organization representatives attended.
